Buffalo talks with ex-Denver coach

Two-time Super Bowl winner Mike Shanahan met with the Buffalo Bills to discuss their head coaching vacancy, according to a published report.It was reported that Bills chief operating officer Russ Brandon traveled to Denver and spent seven hours meeting with Shanahan Monday night and Tuesday morning. Shanahan was quoted as saying he had "an excellent meeting."Shanahan, however, added the two sides agreed to stay in touch to see what develops. He has been out of football since being fired as Broncos coach after last season.The Bills (3-7), who play host to Miami Sunday, were not immediately available for comment. Perry Fewell made his debut as interim coach last week after Dick Jauron was fired.JetsFor the first time in his NFL career, Kerry Rhodes is no longer a starting safety. He also is not certain how much longer he'll be with New York after being demoted by coach Rex Ryan in favor of Eric Smith."I don't know," Rhodes said of his future with the team. "I didn't expect to be in this position, so I don't know."Rhodes has failed to be the playmaking presence Ryan expected when he compared him o the Ravens' Ed Reed in the offseason.Instead, Rhodes has struggled with no interceptions, sacks, forced fumbles or fumble recoveries.ChargersPolitics will have to wait for offensive tackle Jon Runyan, who has practiced for the first time with his new team. Runyan was signed Tuesday after the Chargers placed right tackle Jeromey Clary on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Runyan will put on hold his plans to challenge Democratic Rep. John Adler in New Jersey's 3rd District. His new job is to learn San Diego's playbook.
